One of the best motorcycle riding experiences in the United States has to be what bikers affectionately call “riding the Tail of The Dragon” at Deal’s Gap in the Smokey Mountains. Spectacular scenery and a twisty road that delivers something new around each curve make this one sweet ride!
The video below shows a rider (screen name–YellowWolf) taking on the Dragon’s Tail.
From the motor sounds, I suspect the chase bike filming the action is a sport bike. That Honda GoldWing sets it a pretty fast pace as they take those treacherous turns.

When it comes to riding motorcycles, safety is always an issue. But some places, it seems, are inherently more dangerous for motorcycle riders than others. Take Jamaica, for example. This lush tropical island has one of the highest numbers of motorcycle accidents of any place in the world.
You might well ask “Why?” And I might well answer with this display of photos that explains all:

You can’t talk about Motorcycle Masters without talking about Arlen Ness, the acknowledged king of motorcycle customization. He’s a legend in the world of motorcycles. Outside that world, even people that don’t know a pan head from a panhandler know the name Arlen Ness.
Ness didn’t start out aiming to be the best of the best of the best. Back in the 1960’s,
married, with two kids and working as a furniture mover, Ness didn’t have a lot of extra cash laying around to indulge his dream. By his own account, Ness’s wife Beth gave him grief when he dipped into their meager funds to pay $300 for an old 1947 Knucklehead
Neither one of them could have known that purchase would put Ness on the path to riches and a reputation that will live forever in the hearts of those who love the iron horse. Today it’s impossible to find anyone working in the world of customization that isn’t influenced by the work of this master.
Today that Knucklehead, the one that started it all, resides in the AMA’s Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, lovingly restored by its master to the way it was in the late 60’s. Ness himself, however, is not yet ready to settle as a museum showpiece. Even after 36 years of building a career out of steel and chrome, he’s still at his desk every day, dreaming up new designs.
Arlen Ness is a testament to what a person-even a person that drives a motorcycle- can accomplish when they let passion drive them.

Welcome to Motorcycle Masters, devoted to searching out whatever is masterful in the world of motorcycles. Bikes, customizations, add-ons and gear-if it’s masterfully done, you’ll find it here!
I’m an old school rider with a deep appreciation for all things related to the iron horse. I don’t discriminate between motorcycles no matter where or how they’re built. Whether it’s a Harley made in a U.S. factory or a chopper some Russian cobbled together out of old Ural parts, if it’s done with creativity and craftsmanship, I’m bound to like it.
I’m always on the lookout for whatever is wild, wonderful and related to motorcycles.
If you’ve poured yourself into perfecting a bike or know someone that has, I’ll be happy to report on it. Send information to me at shadowrider at motorcyclemasters.com for consideration.
Ride on!
ShadowRider
